Orientation ( MOA301 )
This module covers the requirements to set and achieve educational goals and gain exposure to market requirements and opportunities. The student will acquire tools for dealing with the challenges of being a student such as study skills, success strategies, stress, note taking, studying, financial and time management.
Microsoft / Typing ( MOA302 )
This module covers the requirement to master the skills of Microsoft Word and typing skills. A skilled MOA should know how to edit & proof-read the document , format the documents, mail merge, work with tables.
Microsoft Excel/ Typing ( MOA303 )
This module covers the requirement to master Excel at work. A trained MOA should know how to work and format worksheets, work with charts and drawings, use miscellaneous tools, work with databases, templates & validating data.
Microsoft Power point ( MOA304 )
This module covers the requirement to master power point at work. The skilled MOA will learn how to use power point with presentations, slide design and layout, working with graphics and tables, animate objects, create notes and handouts.
Introduction to Internet ( MOA305 )
This module covers the requirement to master the skills of using the internet at work. The trained MOA will learn how to use and customize the Internet Explorer browser and investigate the various components of the Internet including the World Wide Web, Email, Newsgroups, Mailing lists, Discussion group, etc.
Role of the Medical Office Administrator ( MOA306 )
Is to be a professional, multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in patient care management. The Medical Office Administrator will perform administrative and or clinical duties and may manage emergency situations, facilities and /or personnel. Competence in the field requires that a medical administrator display professionalism, communicate effectively, and provide instruction to patients.
Reception ( MOA307 )
This module is the first introduction to specific MOA functions. Receiving patients requires thought, preparation, and consideration. The MOA is expected to look and act like a competent person. A skilled MOA can create a friendly, caring atmosphere for patients by smiling, greeting them by name, and offering assistance.
Appointments ( MOA308 )
Scheduling appointments is one of the principal duties of the assistant, and being able to do so efficiently and intelligently is one of the assistant’s most important skills. Once the basic schedule of the office is set, specific guidelines are used to schedule appointments for patients.
Telephone ( MOA309 )
An office will receive many telephone calls throughout each day. Calls may be incoming, outgoing, or interoffice. The telephone on the MOA’s desk may have several call buttons, which, when pressed, connect the telephone to the doctor’s private office or to other staff offices in the building. This feature makes it possible for the assistant to ask a question and relay the answer to the caller. MOA’s typically handle all incoming calls to the medical office and should use the opportunity to present a positive image for the physician and the practice.
Mails ( MOA310 )
Processing the mail is a major part of each day’s work. A physician receives an enormous amount of mail every day, so the MOA’s handling of correspondence is vital to an efficient office. Sound judgment in sorting and processing incoming mail will save the doctor a great deal of time each day. The MOA must learn to distinguish quickly between the different types of mail most frequently received. Mail must be sorted according to importance and then placed on each doctor’s desk.
Patient Records Management ( MOA311 )
Efficient records management is essential in any medical office. Records management is the systematic control of the steps involved in the life of a record, or file, from creation through maintenance to disposition. The organization of an office is evident in its files.An Office may have centralized files where items such as patients’ medical records are stored in one location for the entire office to access them, or it may have decentralized files where information such as a doctor’s correspondence is easily accessible to an individual user.
Medical Terminology ( MOA 312 )
The MOA must be able to understand medical terminology when communicating with the physician. It is also necessary for reading medical reports, being responsible for adding to basic knowledge by making each new medical term a working part of overall medical knowledge.
Anatomy & Physiology
The MOA must know the basic knowledge of the body’s structure and function as an essential foundation to the competent performance of many roles.
Vital Signs/Preparation of the Patient for Examination
( MOA313 )
These are important measurements of the body’s state of health. Vital signs include temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure. Height and weight are also important and measured on each visit to the medical office.
The MOA must know how to prepare and use the examination room equipment and supplies necessary for an examination. They must also become proficient in preparing the patient for an examination. Basic introductory concepts will be introduced for the comfort of the patient.
Medical Billing ( MOA314 )
The MOA will become familiar with the various types of billing that exist in the medical field eg. OHIP-WSIB-PRIVATE-OUT OF PROVINCE. Both Manual and Computerized Billing will be introduced.
The MOA will become familiar with the record keeping or basic bookkeeping of the medical office.
Medical Law & Ethics ( MOA315 )
The MOA must be knowledgeable regarding Medical Law which is the result of legislation passed by elected officials and is based on the standards of acceptable practice established by the medical profession. Medical Ethics concern the conduct of the physician regarding the patient and society. The principles of right and wrong conduct for members of the profession.
Medical Transcription ( M0A316 )
The student will be ready to use their skills in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Covering an introduction to the dictation machine/operating the dictation machine, introductory listening and comprehension skills, preparation of letters and memos. Emphasis will be on speed, accuracy, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Clinical Placement ( MOA317 )
The college will arrange all the students to do their clinical placement in Medical Centre for training after the students have successfully completed the theory study inside the college.
